The Cave You Fear to Tread

Primitively we have always feared the unknown. Anything is possible there. Ecstasy, bliss and oneness is possible and also the depths of despair and anguish. What is lurking in the bushes? It might be a quick and clean death. It might also be a long and agonising sickness lingering for hours, days, weeks, months, until finally the sweet release of death. Yet even death is unknown until we pass through this passageway for ourselves. Perhaps in the unknown one might find one's deepest treasures.
During the Age of Discovery pioneers would venture into the unknown to colonise new territory. The New World being an epic example of this. We are all pioneers of a vast inner world called the Self. Not to be mistaken with the ego, which is commonly written as the self with a lowercase s.
As sentient beings our natural instincts are to survive. We've always gravitated towards the light because it is known and thus it can be verified to be safe. Yet so much of ourSelves have been casted into darkness. During our individual and unique upbringings we were essentially taught to shame and to turn our backs upon our own Divinity within and to embrace a lie. It is not a game of blame I suggest we play. It is just what our parents were taught, their parents before them and there's before them. It's what a very unconscious human race taught itself. Growing up we lacked the sovereignty and the Self awareness that we might have today. We lacked the strength and reason to dispute these external doctrines. We were programmed to serve and sustain the matrix, which is risen out of fear. We are not responsible for what happened to us growing up, but we are absolutely responsible for what we do with the programs that were indoctrinated into us. For our own lives and the fate of the human species may depend on it.
So what happened to our Divinity? For it is waiting for us to be embraced and integrated. Where, you might ask. In the cave you fear to tread.
When we know the darkness is there, when we feel it creeping in from the edges of our experience. When we feel it capturing our hearts. It is very common for this to invoke this primitive sense of fear around the unknown. Fear can be a very difficult emotion to be with. We may feel inclined to turn away from the darkness to seek refuge in the light.
Our minds are conditioned to fill in the gaps when the unknown is presented to us. It gives us a sense of certainty. This comes from our fears of what may be lurking in the shadows. What is revealed to us when we do this is what our ancestors saw, and what the little girl sees when she fears for what might be under her bed at night. I heard a fantastic quote recently from the TV show 'The Rings of Power' by Galadriel. "What cannot be known hollows the mind. Fill it not with guess work."
Essentially this guess work is no more true than you daydreaming when you're bored at work. Yet these delusions are so convincing. When it gets difficult is when one whole heartedly believes in these delusional stories and identifies with the character (ego) who becomes the victim of the circumstances that inhabit the stories. The Harry that is a victim of his lack of faith in himself. One might have no reason to question the validity of these stories. So for example for me I'm constantly filling the unknown with the story that I am worthless, a burden to those around me and that I have nothing worth sharing, because that is what I was taught growing up. When I whole heartedly believe in this narrative and act from this place, then I fall into such a vicious victim cycle. I become a self fulfilling prophecy, because the energy I put out into the World is reflected back to me and it verifies my delusions even further. So when I challenge the stories, step up, speak my truth and receive people's praises I begin to loosen my grip on my delusions. What arises is this sense that maybe these stories are false. And if they are false, then something must be true. This motivates me to start facing my shadow work.
In the context of ceremony and when the light is realised as your resting point of awareness, and when it/you is shining towards all of the pockets of darkness within your inner world, all of the parts of you that you haven't made known yet, integrated and embodied. When that is being lit up it likely might bring up a lot of fear. This is because the stories that our whole lives we've been filling into the unknown that we've been identifying with are being challenged. If we allow our awareness to unconsciously descend into to the darkness and to identify with the stories then terror may be on the rise because often it can feel like one is dying. Identifying with that which is being revealed as a delusion can be a horrendous experience. That is why it is essential to stay centred in the light and to be present with whatever darkness may come up, and to not judge it.
Some people radiate a lot of light. This is often because they're in their integrity and are further down this path of integrating their Self. This can be intimidating for those who are still possessed by ignorance and false stories to one degree or another. If a more embodied sovereign soul is truthfully reflecting that one is acting out of alignment with integrity then again, one's distorted sense of identity is being revealed to be a lie. Some people choose to hide in the darkness and act maliciously when threatened by an external light. Consensus ideology calls these people evil, and locks them up in prison instead of helping them, or giving them the tools to help themselves. Unintegrated Selves can come out from the shadows in very aggressive ways. I was met with this 'evil' energy when I was beaten up in 2020 and hospitalised. I was speaking from a place of light. I showed them peace. They showed me war. It was like the scene of a little girl who places a flower in the giant soldier's gun. They were lost to the darkness and their reality was being taunted by truth, thus they projected that which was lurking in their shadows onto me.
Once that which is hidden in darkness is integrated and embodied it is no longer 'evil', it is You in your fullest. It is Divine. The Self with a capital S. It is your soul embodied. The beast is just the delusion. It is the monster under the little girl's bed. The more we embody ourSelves, the more we can surrender and trust the universe. After all, life is a mystery. It cannot be understood rationally. So let us surrender to the mystery together now, before it is too late. Let us stop unconsciously choosing from a place of fear and distrust, and let us turn to the shadows, illuminating the way forth with love and authenticity. Let us find ourSelves.
Thank you.
One love ❤
